Nexus has recently hired Sean Fleming as the agency’s first Head of Digital. His remit is to not only help drive the agency’s social and digital thinking forward for clients, but to also focus on crisis and issues work in the reputation protection space where traditional and social increasingly meet.
Fleming has held a similar role at Octopus Communications in the past, has run his own business, been a tech industry journalist, is a prolific blogger and tweeter, and has played a leading communications role around The PRCA and Meltwater Group’s challenge to the NLA’s web licence scheme.
Nexus MD Richard Medley explains “Sean brings a journalistic rigour and a pragmatic yet still creative approach to digital, grounded in a strategic use of the channels available rather than a jumping on the bandwagon approach of the ‘just because it’s there we should use it’ school. As social and digital grow up and recognise it’s about business value rather than surface value that really matters, Sean’s approach is well tuned into the needs of an agency model that leads on ideas and the bottom line, and that doesn’t do silos.”
Fleming adds “ The age of throwing money at social media in the hope that somehow ‘likes’ will magically transform into money are gone, thankfully. The industry is going to see an increasing number of clients start to expect more from the use of digital as part of their joined up comms mix and in a way where business objectives come back to the fore.”
